An ugly incident following comments critical of one man's mother has led to a sentence of community detention and community work.
The Whanganui District Court heard on Tuesday how Dylan Louis Amon, 25, and his victim were at Steakout Takeaways on Guyton St about 3am on April 15, 2012 when
Amon reacted to derogatory comments about his mother made by his victim.
In response to those comments, Amon punched the complainant, who fell to the ground and lay unconscious for about five minutes.
Court documents state Amon kicked his victim several times once he had been knocked down, but Amon's lawyer, Peter Brosnahan, asked the court to disregard that aspect of the summary, given it was based on evidence from a witness who couldn't have seen the incident.
Mr Brosnahan said the event involved just one king-hit, and asked Judge Cameron to sentence Amon accordingly.
