The WGC netballers went down to Wairarapa in the final of the LNISS tournament in New Plymouth during Tournament Week.

The WGC netballers went down to Wairarapa in the final of the LNISS tournament in New Plymouth during Tournament Week.

The Sport Whanganui review of collage sport continues, this week focusing on performances during Winter Tournament Week.

WHANGANUI GIRLS' COLLEGE - netball
Whanganui Girls' College sent a team of 10 students, coach Karine Harrison and manager Ray Stormont to New Plymouth to take part in the Lower North Island Secondary Schools
netball tournament.

After three wins and a draw on the first two days WGC needed to win both games on final day of pool play to secure a spot in the top 8 of B grade. They made the final unfortunately losing to Wairarapa.

CULLINANE COLLEGE
Basketball

The Cullinane College premier boys basketball team needed to finish in the top seven of the 'A' North Island Premiership tournament in Tauranga to qualify for the Nationals in October in Palmerston North.

Unfortunately, losses out-weighed the wins and they finished with nail-biting 60-59 victory over Flaxmere to finish 11th.

Netball
The Cullinane Senior A netball team will remain in the A grade for 2018 after four losses and four wins at the LNISS netball tournament in New Plymouth during Tournament Week.

The Senior A team experienced their best results at LNISS in New Plymouth for a while.
One highlight was their win against Awatapu, who have been a local rival for years. They ended up having 3 wins and 5 losses to come 20th of 28 teams.

Hockey
The mixed hockey team travelled to Taupo for the North Island Mixed Competition and came home with their best ever placing, 12th of 17 teams. The team was composed of year 9-13 students, some of which were at their first big tournament. Arapeta Latus was awarded most valuable player.

Pool
Two students, Joshua Hamilton and Reihana Rerekura, travelled to Christchurch for the 8-ball Pool 4 Schools national championship after qualifying regionally. They played singles and scotch pairs with their Whanganui team mates. The RSA made the trip possible for the boys by sponsoring their travel and stay. Joshua came away with a win in his grade while Reihana made it through to semi-finals in the same grade. In scotch pairs they also made semi-finals.

Rugby U15
The U15 Rugby team travelled to the Hurricanes U15 tournament in Hutt Valley with coach, Ricky Taieroa, and manager, Charlie Kui. It was a very competitive tournament with some of New Zealand's best teams. The team had a great result in their narrow loss to Manukura 21-24 which was almost the upset of the tournament. There was a big win over Mana College, 67-0, and a couple of big losses also. City College combined with 4 players from Cullinane College and 4 from Ruapehu College.

WANGANUI COLLEGIATE SCHOOL
U15 Rugby -Lindisfarne tournament
The WCS U15 team finished third at Lindisfarne tournament after a win over Te Aute 43-19, loss to Lidisfarne 21-28, win over Afili Futuna 71-0 and win over Rathkeale 40-26.

WCS Colts Hockey XI
The team ended up second in the Tanner Cup played in Tauranga, losing only to a strong PNBHS team 1-4 in the final.

WCS Boys 1st XI Hockey
Had a very good tournament ending 3rd in the Mayhill Cup in Albany on the North Shore.

Girls 1st XI Soccer
The Wanganui Collegiate team placed second in its pool with 3 wins, 1 draw and 1 defeat, in their tournament in Wellington.
Genna Maples was top goal scorer and sister Lexi Maples was MVP

Boys 1st XI Soccer
Unplaced in the Rex Dawkins Cup in Palmerston North.

Boys 1st Team Basketball
Unplaced in the Tournament in Tauranga.

WHANGANUI HIGH SCHOOL
WHS Boys Hockey 1st XI were in Hamilton at the Rankin Cup Division 1 and stay in the same grade.

The Boys 1st XI Football team were also in Palmerston Nth finishing 15th.

WHS Phillips Electrical A1 Netball placed 10th of 32 teams in A Grade of the LNISS tournament in New Plymouth.

WHS Girls 1st XI Football team was in Wellington placing 10th. This is the highest our team has come at the tournament.

WHS U15 Rugby team were in Wellington finishing 15th at the U15 Hurricanes tournament.

The Junior Boys Basketball team placed 16th.

The WHS 1st XV hosted the 'Central 6 - Mark Ranby Trophy' at home finishing runners-up to Tawa.
