The Downs Group Tough Kid is a much anticipated event for Rangitikei primary schools and the organisation has already begun. Schools from as far south as Bainesse School near Himitangi and as far north as Waiouru will take part in The Downs Group Tough Kid event which will be held onSeptember 29 at the McIntyre Reserve in Ohingaiti. The event will be run by Sport Whanganui with the support of new host school South Makirikiri.
Principal Stu Devenport said, "The South Makirikiri School Team are thrilled to be hosting this exciting event this year. We know it is an annual highlight for many throughout the region so we feel privileged to be involved in the organisation for 2017. We welcome all schools to take part in this fun, rewarding and action-packed day for young and old." Thanks must go to naming sponsors The Downs Group, who helped to subsidise the cost per child to keep it to a minimum which will see the event attracting up to 1000 individuals taking part on the day.
The course includes a wide range of challenging obstacles including the Slip and Slide run, the Big Bog (mud up to knee height in most patches), a mad dash through cattle yards and the ultimate favourite - a water slide down the slopes while being sprayed with water by the local Mangaweka Fire Brigade.
The aim is to provide a unique participation opportunity for the Rangitikei and wider region's primary schools, and it is always great to see so many kids walking away with huge smiles on their faces! Registrations are now open.
