Video of the Whanganui, A and P Show

Two components of what was previously the Wanganui A & P Association's annual show had a successful time on November 10 and 11.

Mahon's Amusements set up 17 rides and food stalls on the Purnell St side of Whanganui's racecourse, and there were horse events in the oval at the other side of the grounds.

Friday night's rain prevented all but the brave from going to the Whanganui Megafun Carnival put on by Mahon's Amusements, CJ Mahon said. But there were plenty of people there on Saturday and Sunday.

The Turbo Boost ride, the carnival's scariest, had no trouble operating in the calm conditions.

"It's been a really nice positive atmosphere. Everyone has been really friendly," Mahon said.

Wanganui A & P Association secretary Tonimarie Heron was too busy to talk during Sunday afternoon, but said the horse sports side was going well.

Entries have been good, and some of New Zealand's top riders have competed. There were recreational show classes, hack show hunter jumping and show jumping.

The horse area also had food vendors, and a pet parade on Saturday.

Heron and a dedicated group would like to revive the A & P Show, and plan to add more sections next year.
