A popular Whanganui restaurant is re-opening with new owners.

Castle Eatery and Bar, based in Liffiton Castle, is re-opening on Saturday after two months of being shut.

The business has been purchased by Nanak Hospitality Limited, which owns a number of businesses in Whanganui including The Orange Cafe on the corner of Ridgway St and Victoria Ave.

"We have been working hard in here for the last month. Lots had to be done. We are excited about tomorrow," Operation Manager Vik Handa said.

Handa said they would be building on the menu and style of food made by the previous owners.

"We will be adding a few things, giving it a bit of a twist. We are looking at an Indian-fusion-style vision.

"We have a charcoal oven, which gives that authentic, smoky flavour that we will be really utilising."

The historic nature of the building was one of the biggest draws for Handa.

"The Orange is a historic building. It's the castle. We want you to sit down and feel like a King here. That is why this place has always been pretty popular. It's different from other businesses."

Handa said he was always looking to grow his businesses and start new ventures.

"My goal is to give more jobs to locals. We currently employ 25 staff members, but we would like to expand that to a minimum of 50 people. I'm always looking for new opportunities."

Handa said around 30 regular customers were invited to a private tasting in preparation for this weekend, receiving very strong feedback and encouragement.

"Finally, the day has come. We are getting too many messages on the Facebook page and too many people calling us trying to get in.

"I will put this place on the right track."

Castle Eatery is open from 11.30am to 2pm and then 4pm to 9pm, seven days a week.
