They will learn how to budget, make informed financial decisions, manage finances, talk to banks and lenders and understand interest rates, investments and how to protect their assets.
The 20-week course involves a class once a week with some extra tutorial study sessions, making an average of five hours' work per week.
"It's worth the time I think," Mr Adams said.
"It can lead on to more advanced courses and in the second term there's a complementary course for setting up your own business."
The money management course requires a minimum of 20 students, with a maximum of 30.
People who are interested in enrolling should ring 0800 355 553 to book an information session. The sessions will run twice a week in the lead-up to the course starting and provide an opportunity for people to decide whether the course is for them and for the Wananga to assess whether they are suitable for the course.
