The Subway Wanganui swim team's top performer Shannon Schimanski made good on her potential with gold in the 13-year-old girls' 50m breaststroke at the end of the national age group swim championships in Wellington.
Having already won bronze in the 100m breaststroke on Tuesday, where despite being nationally-ranked No1 shewas beaten by Aucklanders Mikayla Dance and Connor Tarrant, Schimanski turned the tables on both girls in the shorter race.
Going into the 50m final on Friday ranked third, Schimanski completed the length in 35sec flat to cap off an excellent week of performances.
Her win gave Wanganui one of each coloured medal as Elena Forlong, 15, had surprised with a silver in the 200m butterfly on Tuesday night, making it the club's most successful national age group event in some time.
Six of the nine-person squad made finals, securing 11 top 10 rankings.
