Potters annual garden art weekend coming up. Video Stuart Munro

Hundreds of people braved the wet and windy weekend weather to enjoy the Whanganui Potters' Studio's annual Art in the Garden event.

It was the sixth year the event has been held and the second time it has been at Frances Taylor's Quality Trees Nursery in Papaiti Rd.

Potters' Studio president Jim Farley said between 200 and 300 people visited on Saturday, with many of the items sold on the first day. Sunday was a little slower, with strong winds and intermittent rain likely to have deterred visitors.

"There's been a lot of interest and people have been interested in a wide range of things," Farley said.

"The raku has been reasonably popular."

The hands-on demonstrations included Potters' Studio members helping visitors glaze a piece for raku firing and showing them how to work with clay.

As well as pottery, there were wrought-iron sculptures, mosaics, painted artwork, wooden furniture and items made from pallets. People could also buy plants from QT Nursery, which specialises in native plants.
