Stock truck crashes closing the Desert Rd

A vet is attending to cattle on the Desert Rd after a stock truck rolled just north of Waiouru.

Emergency services were called to the scene at 1.10pm on Sunday and State Highway 1 between Waiouru to Rangipo has been closed with diversions in place.

Police say the truck driver is uninjured but there are cattle on the road and a vet is in attendance.

The crash happened near the intersection of Paradise Valley Road.

NZ Transport Agency has asked motorists to avoid the area and delay travel if possible.

The detour will add about 40 minutes to travel time and road is expected to remain closed for some time while the scene is cleared.
