Steaming into town

Now here's a sight to gladden the heart of rail fans ? a beautifully restored WAB-class locomotive.
The old steam engine was in Wanganui yesterday at the head of an excursion train from Feilding where it has been restored, and while here ran a trip to the Eastown rail yard and back. About 500 people crammed aboard the seven carriages for the hour-long trip down memory lane.
"It was an absolutely fantastic day. We had a really good response from people who seemed to enjoy themselves," Warren Palmer, a spokesman for SteamRail Wanganui, the group that helped organise the trip, said.
