Whanganui Intermediate Year 8 Tough Kid contestants Carrie Rennie (2nd) and twin sister Teresa Rennie (1st). PICTURE / PAUL BROOKS

By KEN CARVELL (UNCLE)

Carrie and Teresa Rennie are 13-year-old identical twins.
Mum is Filipino and Dad a Kiwi, part European and part Maori. From the age of four they have displayed exceptional sporting talent, participating in almost all sports. They started off playing rippa rugby for Kaierau and progressed through
the tackle grades against the boys, until aged 11, when the boys got a bit big. But even at that stage the coach used them to demonstrate how a tackle should be made. They were nicknamed the "twinnies" by many rugby observers.

Since then they have achieved the following — often placing first and second.
■ 2019 Tough Kids Year 7 / 8, Teresa 1st, Carrie 2nd. They have been placed in the top three for all preceding Tough Kids, often first and second.
■ Both in Whanganui Touch rugby reps for last four years.
■ 2019 Interschool Year 8 Cross country, Carrie 1st, Teresa 2nd. Carrie has won at a younger age as well.
■ Inter School Athletics 2019, Carrie 1st 800m and 1500m and relay, Teresa 1st 100m and relay. Similar results in preceding years.
■ Carrie overall champ for two years in Sport Whanganui Athletic programme, involving wide range of athletic skills.
■ Teresa in elite gymnastic group for a year.
■ Teresa outstanding goal attack at Netball and in elite coaching group in 2019.
■ Carrie outstanding at soccer and named players' player of the year in 2019.
■ Both also playing and excelling at softball and hockey.
■ Both selected to represent Whanganui at the Nationals in the Police-organised PCT challenge held in Porirua in 2019.
■ Both in the winning Year 7/ 8 relay team in the Round the Lake relays 2019.
■ Both make finals at Interschool swimming.

They attended Castlecliff School for all their primary years, then Whanganui Intermediate and next year Whanganui High School.

They have now reached a level whereby they need some "professional" guidance / training and further down the track will have to make a decision on which sports to concentrate on.
While they are very competitive they are also laid back and very sociable, get on well together, support each other and have no qualms if beaten by the other.
