Speed stacking: Jasmine, 13, keeps on piling up NZ records

Wanganui Girls' College's Jasmine Anthony continued her rise to the top of her sport when she was the best overall female at the Wellington Sport Stacking Championships on Saturday.

It made a big weekend for Jasmine, who was recently selected in the NZ Black Stacks team that will compete at the World Championships in New York in April 2015.

Having finished third at the nationals in April, she beat two of her own New Zealand records while setting a third in Wellington.

As well as 1st place as the fastest overall female, her team finished top of their age division.

The 13-year-old was among the top three females and males who took part in the "Stack of Champions", which allows nationally-ranked entrants the chance to try and beat their quickest times in front of all the other competitors and supporters.

During this elite section, Jasmine set a record in the 3-3-3 stack, taking the nine plastic drinking-style cups from a straight line up into a pyramid configuration and back down into a single pile.

The teenager took up the sport four years ago while a pupil at St Mary's School.

Next for her, along with St Mary's Allanah Millar, is representing the Junior Black Stacks team which will compete in Taiwan for the Asian Championships.

While called a "junior" team, this is basically the full New Zealand "B" team as Jasmine competes with, and alongside, adults.
