South Taranaki residents asked to donate stationery items for students

Donated stationery supplies will be distributed to students and schools for use next year.

South Taranaki District Council is encouraging community members to take part in its circular stationery initiative aimed at reducing waste and supporting South Taranaki students.

“If you have school supplies in good, clean condition that you no longer need, we’d love to receive them,” environment and sustainability manager Cindy Koen said.

The council is looking for donations as the 2025 school year comes to an end.

“If you have exercise or art books that are lying around that only have a few pages used, rip them out, and if they’re still in good nick – they’re great to donate,” she said.

There are collection points at LibraryPlus centres in the district as well as the Hāwera Administration Building.

Donations will be sorted and given to students or schools to use in the next school year.

Items the programme is accepting include pens, pencils, highlighters, markers, crayons, erasers, rulers, sharpeners, glue sticks, protractors, scissors, exercise books, notebooks and art books.

Some electronic accessories needed for school, including headphones and calculators, will be accepted, as will book bags.

“Every item donated will support tamariki and whānau within your local community,” Koen said.

“It also means less going to our landfills and promotes reuse.”
