The Nga Tawa Diocesan School skiers won the Nicola Hayes Memorial Trophy for the top-ranked girls team at the 2014 North Island Secondary School Ski champs at Turoa last week.

Using the Wednesday contingency day after soft snow conditions on Mt Ruapehu, there were 117 North Island school teams taking part.

Both the Nga Tawa A and B teams finished in the top 20, coming fifth and 14th respectively in the overall standings.

The girls team of Samantha Rollinson, Victoria Slegers, Hannah Rollinson, Tess Mclean and Meg Fluery have been training with Ruapehu Snow Sports at Turoa and were coached by Fin Neeson.

The annual team event is hosted by Ruapehu College.
