Wanganui police have referred a group of young female students from Wanganui High School and Wanganui City College to the police youth aid section.
This follows the fight in St Hill St on Wednesday afternoon between students from both schools. During the scrap, a student from City College suffered injuries that
needed treatment at Wanganui Hospital.
Senior sergeant Dave Kirby said the girl, who suffered bruising to her head, has been released from hospital. Police were also investigating an assault after a fight between a group of youths aged 15 to 17, on St Hill St, near Cooks Gardens, on Tuesday.
Wanganui High School principal Warwick Maguire told the Chronicle yesterday he and his City College counterpart Peter Kaua had met and talked about the incident.
"We are of course both very disappointed and will ensure this kind of behaviour doesn't happen in the future," Mr Maguire said.
Mr Kaua said after-school strategies were in place. Staff from both schools were also keeping a close watch at the bus stops, he said.
Mr Kaua said he wanted to make it clear that Wednesday's incident was not a brawl, even though there were several students gathered.
"It was a fight between two girls," he said.
