Manukura College emerged as the winners of the 2017 Issac Luke Cup at the Whanganui City College on Sunday.
Two days of round robin competition saw the Palmerston North-based Maori sports academy, who specialise in rugby league, finish with the highest aggregate.
Mid Central Zone general manager Lisa Reweti saidNew Plymouth's Francis Douglas Memorial College were delighted to finish second place after coming third in previous seasons.
Horowhenua's Waiopehu College were third in their first time entering the tournament, while Tai Wananga Tu Toa were fourth.
Reweti said it was pleasing to see FDMC and Waiopehu, traditionally rugby union schools, to continue to develop in league.
City College proved a good location for the tournament, as all four teams had less than a two hour car trip to attend, rather than travelling from one side of the Mid Central catchment to the other.
Reweti said they will be looking to run more academy camps in Whanganui for that reason.
