Roller Hocky: Duo ready to face Aussies

Transtasman rivalry across the hardwood will be renewed tonight at Jubilee Stadium as the 2014 New Zealand vs Australia roller hockey test series gets under way before concluding tomorrow.

The senior tests will consist of 25-minute halves, followed by 10-minute halves in overtime and finally a shootout if the scores are still tied.

Wanganui's Joseph Zinsli and Carlin Barry are in the New Zealand team.

The last time the national squads contested the Trans Tasman Cup was 2010 in Auckland.

In an exciting series, New Zealand lost the first game 7-5, but came back to win the next two games 6-5 and 3-2.

As well as the senior tests, there will also be a three-match Trans Tasman Under-20s series, with 20-minute halves.

Local teenagers Blair Dench, Brodi Skedgwell, both 17, and Roland Mead, 15, are in the New Zealand U-20 lineup.

Other three-game series being played are North vs South and Papatoetoe vs Wanganui.

Tonight's evening session starts with the first game at 5.30pm, then finishing with the first senior test at 8.45pm.

The action picks up again tomorrow at 8.30am, with the second test at 12pm, then the afternoon session starts at 3pm, with the final test at 6.30pm.

The River City Rollers will host a roller derby match with an RCA Invitation team at 8pm.
