A truck transporting cardboard has tipped on Whanganui's London Street/State Highway 3, sparking delays for motorists.

The road was closed between Victoria Ave and Glasgow Street shortly after 2pm on Tuesday, with contractors working to lift the vehicle back onto its axles.

SH3 WHANGANUI, MANAWATŪ-WHANGANUI - TRUCK ROLL - 2PM

The road initially remained open immediately after the incident around 9am on Tuesday morning, with a number of police at the scene ensuring motorists remained clear of the truck.

Police confirmed that no one was injured in the incident.

In a statement, KiwiRail said that some train services had been affected by the incident, with the daily service to Castlecliff delayed.
