Rare Valiant car stolen from Tayforth Road property

A Whanganui man is pleading for the return of his classic 1970 car.

The stolen 1970 VF Valiant Pacer 225 belongs to Ashley Christie, who said he was angry and "pretty gutted" when he found out it was missing.

The car was taken from a Tayforth Rd property sometime between Tuesday last week and Monday.

The Valiant came into Christie's ownership in 1999 and was the first car he ever purchased.

It was fully restored before he bought it.

Christie said the vehicle stands out with its unique style and paintjob, and would be difficult for anyone to sell on.

"It's a special model and I haven't really seen anything similar before."

Hope of the car being found rose with two possible sightings on Monday afternoon.

One report placed it on the back of a truck or trailer travelling on Glasgow St around 3.10pm.

A second possible sighting had the vehicle again on the back of a truck, this time travelling on Heads Rd towards Castlecliff around 4pm.

Christie made a post about his stolen car on Facebook, which has been shared more than 300 times.
