A Whanganui man has been sentenced to six months of supervision following police discovery of drug paraphernalia and cannabis in his bedroom.

Shamon Barker-Pehi appeared in Whanganui District Court on Tuesday on three drug-related charges.

They were procuring or possessing cannabis, possessing utensils for cannabis and possessing or using utensils for methamphetamine.

Police prosecutor Drew Morrison described the scene to the court.

"In the accused's bedroom police identified two modified bottles fitted with pipe in a bong which are used to smoke cannabis," he said.

"Beside the bong, police located 6.52g of cannabis, class b, inside a small bag next to the cannabis, police located a glass pipe commonly used to smoke methamphetamine."

Lawyer for the defence Anna Brosnahan said her client pleaded guilty to all charges.

"What I can say is Mr Barker-Pehi is now in fulltime employment, which is probably demonstrated by the fact that he has been out of trouble for some time," she said.

"His history doesn't relate to this type of offending. His instructions are that drugs are not a part of his everyday life, it comes and goes."

Judge Dugald Matheson noted that Barker-Pehi had recently finished a one year period of supervision which was dealt to him last year.

"I know you've just finished, Shamon, but I just want you to have a wee follow up with that [alcohol and drug] stuff, just so that it stops, period," he said.

"Otherwise I will give you community work, you're a worker already, I don't want to interfere with that.

"You are convicted, with supervision on each charge and I place an order for the destruction of the equipment found."
