One person has died following a two vehicle crash on State Highway 4 between Owhango and National Park in Ruapehu.

Police confirmed the fatality at 6pm on Wednesday night after the crash occurred near Bullians Rd just before 1pm.

A spokesperson for St John said another person was taken to nearby Taumarunui Hospital with moderate injuries.

The road is expected to be reopened by 6.30pm.
