Song of the day is a confession of yours truly...I love Bacharach and David, and from them comes chick of the week, Dionne Warwick.

1960's US produced a lot of music with female based lead vocalists such as what Burt Bacharach and Hal David wrote, plus of course Motown, and I just love the pure female "voice" that these producers put down.....also helping of course were songs that actually made sense.

I need to add here that I have said before that I don't normally listen to the lyrics in a song, but that reference is the heavy metal/heavy rock.

Bacharach's book tells that he first meet Warrick (now aged 77) in '62 when he auditioned her family group, to provide background vocals for a forthcoming Drifters song, and that a couple of weeks later she came back alone and asked Burt if he would record her.....of course he agreed and together they started a one woman juggernaut of hits. In the label printing of her debut single they incorrectly spelt her name as Dionne Warwick, and she decided to keep this moniker.

In '64 they recorded today's song Walk On By and by the end of her career she recorded 38 Studio albums, five Live albums, 22 compilation albums, won five Grammys, was the top US female vocalist for '64, '66, '67, '68, '69, '70 and '71, and I can only assume the pinnacle of her career was achieved in 2010 when (according to Mr Wiki) that she starred in Walker, Texas Ranger!

Unfortunately, not all things were great for Dionne as in 2013 she had to file for bankruptcy as she owed $10 million in unpaid tax.

No need to play this loud, just sit somewhere quiet and listen to it three times, first for the "voice", second for the lyrics & thirdly combined.....it's a goodie.
