Amy Winehouse - Tears Dry On Their Own

Song of the day is from chick of the week. Minus her beehive, Amy Jade Winehouse (1983 - 2011) was 5' 2" of tragedy.

Although her debut album Frank was released in '03, Amy burst into our consciousness in '06 with her own eclectic blend of soul, jazz and R&B with the single Rehab from the album Black and Blue.

To say that the album was a hit is a small understatement as it sold 3.6 million copies in the UK alone, and 12 million worldwide, plus she won five Grammys. 10/10 on the Mark-o-Meter.

A certain Russian businessman with poor taste in football teams certainly liked her, because she once completed a one-hour performance at a Moscow private party for Roman Abramovich for 2 million pounds.

Much was made in the media about her addiction issues, blamed largely on her ex-husband, but when I read in her bio that at aged 14 she was expelled from a drama school for having nose piercings and her body tattooed, were there parental issues as well involved in her rebellion? And in today's song, when she sings "I cannot play myself again.

I should just be my own best friend, not f*** myself in the head with stupid men" ... the word "men" is plural. Amy Jade Winehouse died of alcohol poisoning on 23/07/2011 aged 27. RIP.
