Rangitikei residents will get one more week to have their say on the proposed extension to the Bonny Glen landfill.
Midwest Disposals, who operate the landfill near Marton, have applied to the Rangitikei District Council and Horizons Regional Council for various consents needed to extend the facility.
Submissions were toclose yesterday but the company asked the two councils to extend it by a week.
A public meeting was held in Turakina this week, attended by about 50 people.
"We understand there's a lot of interest out there, clearly by the number of people that attended," Midwest Disposals general manager Paul Mullinger said.
"We've always welcomed submissions, we'd hate to see that just because someone got on to this a little late [they miss out]."
Mr Mullinger said the councils had notified residents near the landfill of the extended submission period. The Rangitikei District Council will consider the land use consent and the Horizons Regional Council the discharges to land, water and air.
Midwest Disposals is a joint venture between Enviro Waste Services and TPI Waste Management which was set up to purchase the Bonny Glen landfill.
