THE WANGANUI Chronicle has again proved it is one of New Zealand, Australia and Asia's most successful regional newspapers.
It has won the 2006 Pacific Area Newspaper Publishing Association (Panpa) Norske Skog Newspaper (under 15,000) marketing section's Branding Award and a highly commended in the Circulation Award category.
The PANPA judges, announcing
the branding award, said the Chronicle's 2005 revamp, with a new logo underpinned by "Love this place ? love this paper" reflected its commitment to the community.
Visible throughout with signage in prime position, runner products, and shopping centre stands, the well-thought-out campaign included sponsorship and community events. The under-15,000 circulation award was won by New South Wales' Tweeds Heads Daily News. The Chronicle came second, receiving a Highly Commended for Puzzle Mania, which has increased Friday casual sales by over 25 percent. "The award and highly commended are due to a great team effort. It's a high honour to be internationally recognised for what we are doing and reinforces our commitment to the community," Chronicle sales and marketing manager Alexandra Doble said last night.
"To be recognised like this when you up against all of Australia, Asia and New Zealand's newspapers is a huge accolade. No other New Zealand newspaper in our category received an award."
In 2003 the Chronicle received PANPA's prestigious Newspaper of the Year Award for daily and Sunday newspapers with a circulation up to 20,000.
