The cause of Sunday's fire at Marton Railway Station is being investigated. Photo / Marton Volunteer Fire Brigade

Fire crews from four stations attended a “well-involved” fire at Marton Railway Station which is now under investigation.

Fire and Emergency NZ was called to the fire just after 4am on Sunday.

Crews from Whanganui, Bulls, Marton and Halcombe responded with a total of nine vehicles.

Fire and Emergency shift manager Alison Munn said the building was “well-alight” and “well-involved” when crews arrived.

The fire was extinguished by 5.15am and firefighters went through the building to make sure there were no active hot spots.

An investigation into the cause is ongoing.
