The Whanganui District Court

The Whanganui District Court

A Marton man accused of indecently assaulting two girls has pleaded guilty to three charges against one of the girls.

The offending occurred at least 10 years ago and the Whanganui District Court heard this morning that one of the complainants had since died.

John Douglas Irvin Combs, a 68-year-old driver, was originally charged with two counts of indecent assault on a girl under 12, seven counts of indecent assault on a girl aged 12-16, and two counts of sexual violation against a girl aged 12-16.

One of the girls was 10-11 years old when the alleged offending happened, and the other was 14.

In court this morning Combs admitted one charge of indecently assaulting a girl aged 12 to 16 years and two charges of indecently assaulting a girl under 12. He was convicted on the charges.

Of the remaining eight charges, Coombs had five charges of indecent assault of a girl aged 12 to 16 withdrawn and replaced with contracting an under 18 year old for sex.

He denied those charges. He has also denied the remaining charges.

There will be a case review on March 3.
