Police attending the incident in Pātea found a man with critical injuries, "but he was unable to be revived and died at the scene".

A 34-year-old man has been charged with murder in relation to a death in Pātea yesterday.

Police were called to a family harm incident at a Dorset Street address just before 9am and a 60-year-old man was found with critical injuries.

“Tragically, he was unable to be revived and died at the scene,” police said in a statement.

The 34-year-old man was arrested at the scene has been charged with murder.

He is scheduled to appear in the New Plymouth District Court tomorrow,.

A scene examination at the Dorset Street property is still ongoing and police expect it to be completed tomorrow.

“Police would like to hear from anyone who has information relevant to our investigation who has not yet spoken to us,” a spokesman said.

Those with information or can help are asked to contact police via 105 and quote file number 240825/6995.

Police do not believe there is any ongoing risk to the public.

“Our thoughts are with the victim’s family, and we are providing them with support at this tragic time,” said the spokesperson.

The public can expect to see an increased police presence in Pātea while the inquiries continue.
