Dodgy $100 notes could be circulating in the South Taranaki-Whanganui region.

Hawera Police told Fairfax at least two retailers in Southern Taranaki have accepted the counterfeit money by mistake, and another three had reported being offered the counterfeit notes.

Police caution retailers to inspect $100 notes they are given. Information on how to spot fake notes is on the Reserve Bank of New Zealand website. The $100 notes in question have a window and silver fern that is not transparent and the $100 in the top right corner has been cut off.
