Victim serious
A person is in a serious condition in Wellington Hospital following a fatal accident at a private property on Pukehou Rd in Bulls on Monday. One person was killed and two were injured when a tree fell on a car during a forestry operation. The name of the dead
person has not been released.


Raukura winner
Rotorua group Raukura was the winner of the He Pouwhenua He Puapua National Secondary Schools Kapa Haka Competition in Palmerston North. It is the second time the group has won, and it will hold the title for the next two years. Cullinane College's Te Ngākau o te Awa was there to represent the Taranaki/Whanganui region. The next national final will be in Auckland, in 2020.

Charge admitted
Paul Douglas Norman Read pleaded guilty to careless or inconsiderate vehicle operation causing injury or death in the Whanganui District Court yesterday. He will be sentenced on October 3.

Not guilty plea
A man pleaded not guilty in the Whanganui District Court yesterday to charges of disorderly behaviour, common assault and driving while suspended. Jason Hone Rutherford will appear for a case review hearing on August 28.
