To help keep children entertained during the school holidays, Animates Whanganui store will be hosting free, educational workshops on two Thursdays, July 13 and July 20.
Starting at 11am, the sessions will introduce children to the skills they need to be a nurturing pet owner.

This school holidays the focus will be on teaching children the essentials on caring for fish or reptiles, including how much to feed them, how to decorate and maintain their housing, and the signs of a happy and healthy pet.
"Fish and reptiles are popular pets, so we'll be taking children for a deeper 'dive' into what it takes to look after these colourful animals and their warm-blooded reptile friends," says Jessica Solly, store manager at Animates Whanganui.
"They'll also learn about what makes lizards, turtles and fish special, what to feed them, how to clean their tank and general tips on how to care for these little animals with big personalities," she says.

The interactive activities will include face painting, activity booklets and a colouring-in competition. There will also be the opportunity to ask the in-store experts for advice on any scaly questions. Children who complete the workshop will take home a certificate to display.

Session times:
■ Thursday, July 13, 11am
■ Thursday, July 20, 11am
Although bookings aren't required, it's advisable to arrive early.
