Organised by Fred Loveridge, any money left over after costs, including security, are donated to a designated charity each year. This year Pauls Rd Live will raise funds for "Gabby's Starlit Hope", a charitable fundraising vehicle for oncology children.
Starlit Hope was created by Gabby Devine in February 2013. The former Whanganui girl had been diagnosed with Ewings Sarcoma (a rare type of bone cancer) in February 2012 and spent a year of intensive chemotherapy, radiation and major surgery to remove any remaining tumour. During this time she had months at Starship and New Plymouth hospital.
Gabby passed away at age 13, but her vision for Starlit Hope was that it continued to grow and be able to put smiles on the faces of as many oncology children and their families as possible through random acts of kindness.
"We only charged the bare minimum to get through the gate and make it an affordable concert for people and rather than insult the musicians playing at the gig by paying them $10 or $20, we decided to donate any proceeds left over after expenses to charity," Mr Loveridge said.
"This year we decided on Gabby's Starlit Hope. The family were originally from Whanganui and Gabby's parents have said any money we raise will be spent on random acts of kindness for kids with cancer here in Whanganui. We thought that was pretty neat."
On Sunday The Blues Buffet will take centre stage playing numbers from their third album Reality Show.
They will be joined by national musical treasure Bullfrog Rata and the Interlopers, Te Paerata Tichbon, Clazzmatic Boggie Orchestra, Hammered, Richard Littlejohn, and Status Update, a Status Quo tribute band.
Tickets can be bought from Gatshack Music on the corner of Ridgway and St Hill streets for $15 for adults or $5 for children, although a limited number may be available at the gate on the day.
Gates open at 11.30am. Visitors are encouraged to bring their own seating, shade and food and drink.
