Mayor Hamish McDouall says ideas already suggested for the Whanganui port revitalisation are "fantastic" but more would be welcome.
Mr McDouall said the two public meetings held recently had identified the community's priorities at the Castlecliff port.
The mayor said it was obvious from the discussion that Whanganui people were interested in their future and could see the "big picture" in terms of what the port could provide for business, training and recreational users.
One of the more publicised ideas is Neville Johnson's Whanganui-to-Motueka ferry concept. He said Mr Johnson had met the Whanganui and Partners team several times in the past year and had been offered financial support to assist with the business case.
"We look forward to working with Mr Johnson to see how his plan could fit with the port revitalisation. We've asked Mr Johnson for supporting information and when we receive that the next step is to work with the revitalisation team to consider the proposed venture. "If the business case stacks up, a ferry could be a very exciting opportunity."
