Ohakune police are investigating a home invasion and serious assault on a man on the Parapara Rd/SH4 between Raetihi and Wanganui around 10pm on April 3.

Detective Lane Demchy of Ohakune police said a 41-year-old man was at home when there was a knock on the door.

He opened the door to two unknown males who kicked him in the head and legs, then tied him up. The man sustained bruising to the face and body in the attack. He managed to untie himself and call for assistance.

He was transported to Wanganui Hospital by ambulance and discharged the following day.

The attackers took nothing and left the property in a vehicle in the direction of Wanganui.

The victim said he had no idea who the attackers were or why he was assaulted.

Mr Demchy said there was no known motive for the attack and police were considering mistaken identity.

Anyone with information should contact Ohakune police on 06 385 0100 or call Crimestoppers on 0800-555-111.
