Around 100 gymnasts from six different North Island clubs made their way to the Wanganui Boys & Girls Gym club for the Wanganui Open at the end of May.

The locals had plenty of success, which boded well heading into the Palmerston North Open at the weekend.

In the Girls Step 1 Unders division, Bailee Jones was first on vault and uneven bars, plus second on Beam and Floor to claim the first overall prize.

Aria Hill was second on vault, first on beam and third on floor to come second overall, while Pieta Martin rounded out the overall top three with first on floor and second on uneven bars.

The Step 1 team of Jones, Hill and Martin placed second overall, while the Step 1 Team 2 of Chloe Mallett, Ava Johnston, and Olive Dickie were third.

In the Step 2 unders division, Whanganui's Annabelle Brown was second overall after coming second on uneven bars, and third on floor, vault and beam respectively.

Grace Ivory was third overall after coming first on vault, second on beam and third on uneven bars.

The Step 3 Unders division was won by Sienna Gilmore after she swept first placings on vault, uneven bars, beam and floor.

In teams competition, Kayla Yum, Chloe Bardell and Sarah Couper were second for the grade.

Step 5 Overs division had Holly Burrows as second overall after she was first on beam and floor, then third on uneven bars.

Locals dominated the Boys Level 1 Division, as Finn Lennox was first overall with wins on the pommel, rings, p-bars and high bar.

Jacob Price was second after coming first on floor and vault, as well as second on pommel and p-bars.

Theo Stanbrook-Mason was third after being second on rings and vault.

In the Level 2 boys, Harry Dickie was first overall with victories in pommel, vault, and p-bars, coming 1st overall, with Miguel Sapasap the runnerup after coming first on floor, rings and high bars.

The Level 5 boys saw Amardin Firaza have a clean sweep with first in all events.

The Gym Club also recently sent an Aerobics team to compete together for the first time in New Plymouth.

Taking on Taranaki, Manawatu, Bay of Plenty and Auckland clubs, the five Whanganui girls all qualified for finals and picked up medals.

In Level 2, Ella Riddell claimed individual gold, while Chelsea Jones and Olivia Gibbons got silver and bronze respectively, before all three went on to get the team gold.

Level 3 saw Hayley Bardell win a silver and Cassidy Wright a bronze.

The club will sent representatives to their next Aerobic competition in Tauranga.

The Gym club is getting back into Aerobics competition and did very well in New Plymouth through Ella Riddell, Chelsea Jones and Olivia Gibbons, Hayley Bardell and Cassidy Wright.
