Greyhounds: Canterbury dog comes to Whanganui for 645m feature

The staying greyhounds provide the main chasing action during tomorrow evening's Hatrick meeting where they race over the 645m trip (Race 6).

The field features the presence of the classy Craig Roberts-trained Dyna Weslyn from Canterbury, who is trekking up north to have a look at the venue prior to the looming $30,000 Wanganui Distance, which will be decided over 755m at Group 1 level (March 8).

Dyna Weslyn has recently resumed racing following a seasonal spell.

Prior to that break she had easily won a couple of 725m races in Melbourne.

Adding interest to the field is the presence of Cawbourne Krusty, who is prepared by Roberts' son Matt.

Cawbourne Krusty has won a Group 1 520m final at Hatrick, plus she is also proven over 645m.

The field contains just seven stayers, however a podium finish can be built for the other five stayers engaged in this event.

Roberts Jr also has last week's stylish 30.29s 520m winner Allen Mack accepted here, along with his strong finishing kennelmate Cawbourne Taylor.

Both are proven 645m staying greyhounds.

The heats for the $90,000 Auckland Cup (527m) and the $30,000 Railway Sprint (318m) will be contested at the Manukau Stadium on Sunday, therefore there are no open class races tomorrow.

There is a liberal sprinkling of the usual Friday Hatrick greyhounds contesting those heats, especially with Lisa Cole and Angela Turnwald travelling north with big teams of quality greyhounds.

Turnwald has mentored Nature's Gent to victory in his last two Group 1 520m Hatrick Group1 finals and he has drawn ideally for his Auckland Cup heat in the one trap (Race 10).

After having raced at Manukau two weeks ago Cole returned her sharp sprinter Sir Duggie to Hatrick last Friday to deliver his smart 17.38s 305m win.

He's all the rage to take out his Railway Sprint heat from Trap 8 (Race 7).

Again, it is the C3 intermediate graded who feature over 520m tomorrow (Race 10) where an interesting clash looms between a pair of greyhounds who offer differing racing styles.

The promising youngster Bigtime Lilah has been flying through the grades for Cole.

She is benefiting from a bonus C3 outing here after her stylish 26.05s Manawatu Monday 457m win.

Bigtime Lilah has drawn to attempt an all the way win from trap two.

On the paw, you can expect the Marcie Flipp-trained Idol Tom to settle in the rear group from where this proven 520m chaser is expected to be sighted flashing home late.
