One has to really feel for greyhound commentator Mark Rosanowski when he calls this evening's open class 520m event (Race 9).

It promises to be a 'Bigtime' race for Rosanowski (Roso) to commentate - as seven of the eight greyhounds drawn in the field carry a Bigtime naming prefix.

The seven greyhounds are trained by Lisa Cole, who has made a strong winning start to the 2017-18 racing season after taking out the 2016-17 national Trainers' Premiership when she mentored an astounding 713 race winners.

It is also a strong reflection on the quality greyhound breeding program that the Cole family operation has established at their Palmerston North kennels.

So what are the likely scenarios for Roso on how this $4,735 race will unfold for him?

He is likely to call Bigtime Paddy away from trap four first and if doing so he is also likely to call the greyhound wearing the blue racing vest to victory.

He has gone underneath the 30 second barrier for the 520 trip on numerous occasions, with his best being a low-flying 29.79s.

Paddy was real brave when delivering his Wanganui Cup third last Friday at Group 1 level.
Roso will be keeping a wary eye on Bigtime Bell.

She owns a powerful finish and she certainly owns the ability to make her presence felt at the business end of this race.

Bigtime Jason is generally sighted contesting the early pace and he has drawn to adopt that tactic from the two trap.

The improved one trap draw that Bigtime Welldone receives is likely to assist him, while Bigtime Vanessa from the opposite end of the traps is a chaser who Roso is likely to keep a watchful eye on.

This talented, but at times erratic greyhound, is facing her toughest career test in this line-up.

Thoughts must also be given to the sole 'intruder' in this field.

Soaring Hawke is conditioned by leading harness driver Peter Fergusson, who has also made a strong start to the new season from his Cambridge located training base.

Soaring Hawke, who was an Auckland Cup finalist last season, has developed an affinity with the Hatrick track and, yes, she owns sufficient talent to deny the Cole squad full occupation of the post-race podium.

Her presence here can break-up a possible all 'Bigtime' finish that Roso may be calling home.
