Greyhound's not only race themselves - they race the clock.

Greyhound's not only race themselves - they race the clock.

With the current spate of winners pouring out her kennels, it was inevitable that leading trainer Lisa Cole would ultimately finish up providing an entire drawn field in an open class 520m event at a Hatrick Friday evening meeting.

Afterall, training 667 winners for the current season says that situation will occur and it has in the Race 9 Hatrick Stakes over 520m, where all eight drawn greyhounds are from her kennels.

It is her Group race winning pair of greyhounds, Allegro Gun and Spare Some Time, who look to be her leading win prospects in the event.

The Hatrick 305m track record holder Allegro Gun has really adapted to stepping up in race distance.

He displayed that when winning the recent North Island Challenge Stakes in Palmerston North over 457m at Group 2 level.

Allegro Gun has also gone on to successfully contest Hatrick 520m events, clocking a 30.08s best time.

He is expected to lead this evening's field out from the three trap.

Drawing out wide (trap eight) suits the racing style which recent NZ Futurity winner Spare Some Time uses.

The winner of that Group 1 event is likely to be sighted pushing forward during the early rush for positions.

Others from the Cole kennels in the race who can secure a post race podium position includes Bigtime Bell, Bigtime Flyer and Absinthe Minded.

Matt Roberts is the trainer of the only 'stranger' in the field having the first reserve Cawbourne Trixy.

It was her who really set the tongues wagging last Friday when she delivered a searing 29.77s 520m solo trial time.

The trial was all about registering a qualifying time for the Formpro Amazing Chase series.

The holders of the two quickest Hatrick 520m times - race or trial - will be guaranteed a final field position for the Manukau July 30 final series.

The Amazing Chase will see four, two-dog match races over 527m being contested, with $30,500 in stake money on offer.

Greyhounds will race not only themselves, but also the clock.

Cawbourne Trixy now holds the leading Hatrick time, while Bigtime Paddy from the Cole kennels is currently sitting in second thanks to his slippery 29.79s winning race time posted last Friday.

Bigtime Paddy will contest the Race 10, C2/3 520m event this evening.
