The Manawatu-Wanganui women's team made a strong start to the 2017 Toro Interprovincial tournament at Sherwood Golf Club by beating the team lead by the New Zealand Amateur champion.
In their first round matchup on Monday morning, Manawatu Wanganui defeated North Harbour 4-1, with No1 player Brydie Hodge defeating favouriteand national champion Silvia Brunotti 1up.
Wanganui Golf Club's Tara Raj was also successful in the No2 spot, beating Subin Wui 5/3. Lily Grittin and Mudra Lakhani both secured 1up wins over Vaha Fapiano and Amy Huh respectively, while Jill Hall had the only loss of the round in a 6/4 defeat to Anna An.
Manawatu-Wanganui moved on to face home team Northland in the afternoon.
The men's Toro Interprovincial starts Tuesday morning at the Mangawhai Golf Club, with Manawatu-Wanganui, including Castlecliff Golf Club's Hayden Ring, facing Bay of Plenty.
