Your unused household items could become a lifeline for someone suffering from cancer.

The Wanganui Chronicle is holding a monster garage sale this weekend with all proceeds going to the Cancer Society.

Organiser Sandra Rickey said donations of items were still needed for the garage sale, including furniture, clothing, books, crockery, and others.

"People have been very generous, but we still need more. We're accepting donations right up till 4pm on Friday. People can bring them to us, or we can pick them up."

The sale will be held at 39 Taupo Quay, near the Wanganui i-Site, and that is where donations can be dropped off.

Ms Rickey said there would also be a sausage and bacon sizzle at the sale.

She said the sale was part of the Wanganui Chronicle's efforts for the Cancer Society's Relay For Life, on March 16. Each team that enters the relay must raise $1000, which goes to the Cancer Society.

"The Wanganui Chronicle has entered a team, and we want to raise more money than anyone else because it's such a good cause," Ms Rickey said.

She said the sale would not have happened if it wasn't for the generous support of sponsors and the public.

Monster Garage Sale and sausage and bacon sizzle will be held on Saturday, March 2, 9am-3pm, at 39 Taupo Quay.
