St John Ambulance and The Men's Shed put their heads together for a fundraising raffle and came up with a playhouse.

The playhouse will be dismantled and reconstructed in Trafalgar Square where raffle tickets will be sold from November 18 to December 14.

Meantime, work is continuing building the playhouse at the Men's Shed in Wicksteed St, with retired Waverley builder John Wicks doing most of the work.

On Tuesday, Walter Bright and Jim Eyers also lent a hand to the project.

St John committee member Betty Simpson said all the funds raised from the raffle would stay in Wanganui to maintain the Tawa St buildings and provide the young people with all the equipment they needed for their outdoor events.

Committee member Brenda Lacy approached Bunnings, which donated the ply and underfloor material. An easy catch opens the door and a small table will be placed inside.

Mr Wicks explained the process where they completely removed the walls and roof to lay the linoleum, then reassembled the tiny building with floor covering sitting under the walls.

This process will be repeated when the playhouse is shifted to Trafalgar Square, where it will be reassembled.

"It is very heavy and we have had to build it this way to make it easier to move," Mr Wicks said.

If the playhouse is won by a Wanganui person, Mr Wicks will reassemble it at the property; but if won by a ticket-holder from out of town, he will give them instructions on reassembling.
