Football Whanganui put up a brave performance against GR Engineering Women's Federation League leaders Bluewater Hotel Taradale AFC at Wembley Park on Sunday.
Languishing at the bottom of the table with 11 losses and a draw from the 12 matches played, the Football Whanganui women went into the home gameclear underdogs, but rallied well to hold Taradale to a 2-0 scoreline that was no reflection of how the match was played.
Coach Symon King was adamant his side could have scored on more than one occasion. "The girls were fantastic on Sunday and the outcome certainly didn't reflect the game," King said.
"We really did deserve to have some points on the board, but that's football. We created chances and played some good stuff, but weren't rewarded. It was a whole team effort, although Lisa Walker and Dana Love were solid at the back and Dana McClelland also played well. My Man of the Match, though went to Rebecca Ngapeka at right back." King said.
Football Whanganui travel to New Plymouth to take on Moturoa AFC this weekend, then play second-to-bottom Port Hill United before the final game match with second placed Palmerston North Marist Women's Reserves.
