The Wanganui Athletic Reserves put on a show on the main pitch at Wembley on Saturday as they took Castlecliff St Anthony's down a peg or two with a 4-0 victory.
The loss of points may have hurt the Saints' chances at pushing for the title, but keeps Athletic Reserveswell in the hunt.
In the other matches, Castlecliff United went down to the Total Automotive Wanganui City Hammers 7-1, giving the Hammers a 3-point buffer at the top of the table, and the Athletic Cosmos showed their class with an 18-1 thumping of City Thirsties.
Wanganui High School International drew 0-all with the Marist Casuals, with both sides feeling that they were unlucky not to walk away with the three points, while a scrappy match between Wanganui Collegiate and the Marist Bhoys saw the Marist lads walk away with a 3-0 win.
Marist Celtic left their run late against the Wanganui City Reserves, putting the majority of their goals away in the dying minutes, and closing out the match with a 5-1 victory.
In the closest match of the day, the Castlecliff Braves came from behind and scored a last-minute goal to beat the Athletic Weekenders 5-4, leaving the Weekenders licking their wounds after they threw away a lead for the second consecutive week. The points from this match push the Braves into the top 8.
The St John Castlecliff 1sts won their friendly fixture against the City Renovators, and will be looking forward to next week, where they will need a win to push themselves back into the top 8. They currently sit 3 points behind the Braves, and well shy of St Anthony's.
In the women's matches on Saturday, Collegiate took home the bragging rights with a 4-2 victory over Girls College, while Clive Barritt Builders Marist Women beat Castlecliff Saints 2-1.
