Six teams and fours schools from around Whanganui attended the 1st regional kapa haka at the War Memorial Hall yesterday hosted by Te Kura Kaupapa Maori o Tupoho.
Five hundred people turned out for the event with some coming from as far as Raetihi. Teina Aue is a teacher at
TKKM o Tupoho. She says it was fantastic to see so much support.
"It was a absolutely wonderful day, seeing the people and so many schools involved."
Her school was one of two winning teams that will be representing the region at the national finals in Gisborne.
She says the teams put months of work into perfecting their performance.
"For our junior group we were practicing two nights a week and with our senoir group we where practicing three times a week since last term."
