Fire has destroyed a house in Whanganui.

Five fire crews and multiple tankers were called to fight the blaze on Roberts Ave in Aramoho.

Fire and Emergency NZ were called to the fire about 6pm on Tuesday and three crews were still there at 8.25pm.

Police closed the road.

Fire and Emergency said cell towers near the fire may also have been damaged.
