Marton gets a taste of Nashville this weekend as partygoers pull on their cowboy boots and bust-a-move for the annual country music festival.
Sir James Wilson Memorial Park in Marton turned into a motor home village yesterday for the three-day event, with hundreds expected to park up. Many fans travelleddistances to listen to country stars including American Joni Harms, Lynn Putt from Okato and Joy Adams from Hamilton. Colleen Salisbury drove her camper van down from New Plymouth.
"I have been here four times before and I just enjoy country music so much,"
She enjoyed catching up with old friends and meeting new people at the event. "You meet so many nice people - different people from all over,"
She would meet up with five single friends from the Motor Caravan Association.
"You don't have to know anybody - I am by myself - you just meet up with people."
Karen Davies, from New Plymouth, said she had not been to the festival before, but agreed to go after friends dragged her along - "And it is wonderful."
She was used to listening to Bob Marley, but was open to hearing some country tunes.
