Members of the Wanganui Muscle Car Club will be standing by at the Wanganui East Club tomorrow morning to take people for rides. Pictured are Barry Lethbridge (left) and Bob Smith.
They're hoping it won't be raining then, but said the event would go ahead rain or shine. From 10amto 1pm there will be classic American cars in the Wakefield St car park, plus a sausage sizzle, bouncy castle and playground for children.
Car owners will be standing by to take people for a ride in the car of their choice, to experience the "brute power" of an early automobile. The cost will be a donation to the region's Cancer Society.
The cars will be Mustangs, Valiants, Fords and Chevrolets, including Mr Smith's 1972 GTHO Falcon, a type used in early racing at Bathurst. The club will also be open to non-members, for food and drink. If the fundraiser proved popular it could become an annual event, Mr Smith said.
