Two vehicles were involved in the crash. Photo / Bevan Conley

Emergency services at are the scene of a two-car crash at the intersection of Heads Rd and Prince St in Whanganui.

Police Sergeant Colin Wright said the driver of one vehicle has serious injuries, while the two occupants of the other vehicle, a mother and a young child, are "relatively uninjured".

The driver with serious injuries has been taken to Whanganui Hospital.

Wright said the road is expected to be closed for a few hours, and the police are appealing for witnesses.
