Driving ban for man who didn't stop for police

A man who wouldn't stop for police has been given community work and a driving disqualification in court.

Russell John Edmonds was caught driving while forbidden on May 25, and was spotted again on June 3 on London St. A police patrol followed him with lights and sirens, but Edmonds did not pull over.

Police followed him until he pulled into shared residential driveway.

He stopped the car and stayed in it until police approached.

He said he didn't stop because he knew the car would be impounded.

He pleaded guilty this week in the Whanganui District Court to failing to stop for red and blue flashing lights, and two counts of driving while disqualified.

Judge David Cameron sentenced Edmonds to nine months' disqualification and 120 hours of community work.
