It's the return of the big guns to Hatrick this evening as the leading Friday evening 520m and 305m greyhounds arrive back here after contesting various Group race assignments.

Bigtime Paddy is the hero amongst the returning brigade as he fronts for his Race 10, 520m outing here as the newly crowned $45,420 New Zealand Derby title holder.

It was a thoroughly professional victory by the Lisa Cole-trained chaser who took on and easily defeated one the strongest NZ Derby fields ever assembled over 457m at the Cambridge Raceway.

He is smart enough to overcome his five trap draw here.

His kennelmate Bigtime Levi finished strongly to claim his NZ Derby third placing.

That was a solid effort which saw him stylishly handling his toughest career test. He can be expected to finish solidly in this event.

Bigtime Mia was right in contention in her $15,820 Group 2, 457m event when she veered out rather wide on the track when rounding the turn and allowing two other chasers to rail through underneath her.

She balanced up and kicked on okay, which saw her finishing third behind another Cole-prepared runner Bigtime Blackie.

She is likely to push forward during the early rush from trap six here.

Another Cole-trained runner No Time Toulouse, and Quistis Bale from the Matt Roberts kennels, both didn't feature in that same Group 2 final.

Both of them own the ability to contest the early pace which is a tactic both chasers must use from trap rise here.

There can be no denying the race fitness that Nitehawk Rose brings into this race for her conditioner Bill Hodgson.

She lined up in the Cambridge 747m staying test at Group 2 level last Thursday where she was the victim of an impeded early racing passage.

Nitehawk Rose will be sighted powering home late here.

There's also two open class 305m sprints during this card.

The first of them (Race 2) sees Bigtime Blackie dropping back in race distance. She is a proven 305m sprinter around here.

Mila Mila tasted recent feature race success when she prevailed in Palmerston North over 457m for Angela Turnwald.

She is likely to enjoy jumping from the one trap here.

Yet another Cole-prepared greyhound who is returning from a Manawatu 457m Group 2 457m decider is Bigtime Doug.

He was run late by yep, his kennelmate Bigtime Vanessa in that final.

Watch for him to swoop from trap eight in the Race 4 open class 305m sprint.
